First half it was all going so well. Comfortably keeping the Brentford threat at bay. Defence looking as organised as ever, Tommy Tommy a colossus. A couple of barges from Brentford into the back of players went unpunished. Half time 0-0.
Ominous signs as the teams went off for their oranges though. Tommy lying on the pitch needing treatment. He didn’t reappear. Super Robbie switched it up and brought Brown on as emergency wing back. Bit surprising with Giles on the bench.
10 minutes into the second half we were 2 down as Brentford stepped it up. Ball in the box failed to be cleared probably and Maupay lashed home. Minutes later Mee who set up the first headed in the second via Carlton and it looked game over.
Some attacking changes from Robbie paid off. Another peach of a through ball from Ross and Brown strode across the edge of the box, firing a bullet into the corner. Game on. But hopes snuffed out by a third conceded.
Still time for what we thought was 3-2 only for Chong’s headed effort to be chalked off for offside.
Personally always thought – bizarrely perhaps – that three fixtures consisting of Brentford away, Arsenal and City at home – our toughest assignment was the one in West London.
Bring on the leaders Tuesday night for a late, Amazon Prime inspired kick-off of 2015.
Can’t wait.
