Coventry 3 Luton Town 2 – Two Steps Back After One Forward

Carlton hits the net again

This had the inevitability of Bournemouth away from last season. 2-0 up half time against the run of play. Probably needed some tactical changes but they never came. Coventry changed it up, Rudoni came on, and from the moment they scored, there only looked like one winner.

The return to “what Luton are” had brought better performances against Watford and Sunderland. But away at Coventry the direct style does not give any control when you haven’t got the ball. Particularly when you take Morris and Adebayo off and their replacements are simply not similar. Instead of holding the ball up and getting men up the pitch, the ball comes bouncing straight back to a side who can pass it.

Seven defeats out of twelve.

The transfer team have got to look at January as a window to get gamechangers from the bench. We’ve said it often enough – Walsh and Woodrow are not the level of people we should be bringing on. Lovely lads undoubtedly and perhaps Nathan can find a home for them at Charlton.

We saw a lovely laminated folder during the second half containing colour print outs of coaching plans. What we didn’t see was an away shirt ready for Nakamba delaying the substitution. A training or psychological session on what needs to happen when Town go 2-0 up should be on the agenda.

West Brom on Friday next. Six days to recover. No Doughty. Suspended. No Holmes. Ditto.
