There are some moments that define a season and on Saturday did the 2,500 Town supporters at Selhurst witness a special one? A whisker away from making it six defeats in a row in all competitions, Town came up with a superb equaliser crafted by Super Robbie’s substitutes.
Andros Townsend had the ball on the right. The Palace defenders had blocked off the run down the line. So Andros turned inside, and curled a delicious ball into the danger area. Cauley Woodrow rose like a salmon to flick the deftest of headers towards goal. Don’t underestimate the part Luke Berry played either as it was his bit of poaching that caused mayhem in the Palace defence with the keeper hesitating. The ball evaded everyone and nestled perfectly in the corner.
Not the first time of course this season Cauley the last gasp hero with his winner at Everton in the FA Cup. And particularly memorable for a player who is one of our own, scoring for the first time in the Premier since a goal against Palace for Fulham 10 years ago.
In truth Palace had many chances earlier to have won this game, and again it was some fantastic saves from Tomas Kaminski that kept us in it. Town suffered some more injuries and the game ended with a new centre back pairing in a back four of Daiki Hashioka and Reece Burke.
A point at the start of a 9-point pivotal week. On to Bournemouth for what will be an emotional night on Wednesday with Tommy Lockyer coming on to the pitch at half time and thanking the medics and staff who saved his life.
Absolute class from the Bournemouth fans to contribute over £2,000 for Luton supporters coach travel.
