Leeds United 3 Luton Town 0 – Comprehensively Outplayed

Four and a half years ago Luton went to Leeds, enjoyed 24% of possession, had 3 shots the whole game against their home side’s 23, and came away with a 1-1 draw. Last night we managed 7 shots, restricted them to 20, but got battered 3-0.

Context is everything. That 2020 draw came three games into Nathan Jones’ second spell, just after covid restrictions had been lifted for the first time. We were still bottom of the table after the draw, but it was the start of a resurgence that lifted us all the way to the Premier League.

Where are Luton fans and the club now? Suffering the inevitable hangover after a year in the big time, and soon to find our feet? Or do we have further to fall?

On the positive side:

  • Moses was unlucky not to score first half, great clearance off the line
  • Reece should have done better with a free header from a quality Morris ball
  • Elijah was micro-seconds from lifting it over the keeper second half
  • Elijah also put a header over from not far out
  • Even Baptiste had a shot

But in truth Leeds were all over us. The James goal was quality. 3-0 did not flatter them.

On to another tough test at Norwich. No sign of any away day improvement that seemed to have been promised by Gary Sweet following the international break reflections.
