First twenty minutes of this encounter was all Town. Chance after chance. Walsh did what he did against Cardiff and put a shot straight at the keeper. He also skewed two wide shortly after. His supporters talk of him knitting the team together. His critics point to his stats. One thing is for sure – last year Barkley would have buried one of those three chances.
The two wins under Bloomfield have come when Town have found a bit of inspiration and on both occasions it came from Jordan Clark. But sadly for the supporters this time not one of the 19 shots could manage to find its way into the onion bag. Probably for the first time this season Kaminski did not have a save to make such was our total dominance.
So will the points come as we heard post-match and has the corner been turned? The trouble is 1) other teams are winning as does tend to happen in league tables, and 2) there are only 8 games left, and 3) the only team technically on the beach in the remaining fixtures are Blackburn.
After a 2 week international break it will be a Hull of a game, another 12 pointer, and then a home clash with the mighty Leeds.
A quick nod to the programme notes. Which contained another 4 paragraphs blaming the officials for defeats at Burnley and Watford.
Meanwhile we reflect on the fact that in 6 home games since the change of manager we have scored two goals. That’s the worst record in the EFL. No wonder Matt was very keen the club buy a confident, in-form marksman in January.
