It has been over a year since Luton Town came from behind to win, but today’s triumph could not have been better timed. A below par first half showing was forgotten by a second forty five power show, with every player stepping up where it mattered.
Super Robbie made two changes with Reece Burke thankfully back in defence, and Tahith Chong restored on the flank.
Not a single shot on target in the first period, although Bournemouth did hit the post twice. Reece kept danger man Solanke nice and quiet.
Spirits dropped briefly early in the second half just after Carlton has crashed a shot against the post. Tavernier lashed an unstoppable into the far corner.
But this Luton side is one of the tightest group the club has ever had. Rob threw on Berry and Fred and their impact was immediate.
A cracking run from Jordan Clark was laid off to Luke who caused mayhem on the edge of the box for the ball to fall back to Clicker. His instinctive half turn and lascerating finish was too good for Neto. 1-1 and game on.
As injury time approached Carlton collected on half way and spread the ball out to Doughty. On the overlap was Cauley. He collected Alfie’s pass, shifted the ball inside, and curled a peach of a cross into the box. Who’s on the end of it with a captain’s finish but the fella who started the move. Inspirational Carlton who sent the fans wild.
No dramas in time allowed and the Town players and staff went off to a standing ovation.
Six cup finals left, starting with a trip to the oil men next week.
