A night to remember. 10,000 Luton fans and a few from Brighton were treated to a powerhouse of a performance from second one right up to 94 minutes.
Emotional scenes before the game as Tommy Lockyer walked round the pitch and it was his presence at the Kenny, together with an earlier visit to the training ground, that must surely have generated extra juice in the lads.
Because straight from a Brighton kick off, Reece Burke got a challenge in, the ball went out to Ogbene. His cross was knocked down by Carlton, and Elijah does what Elijah does by firing home.
One up in 18 seconds.
Just time to celebrate, blink, return to the seat, to see Brighton kick off, ball won, it reaches Lokonga inside half-way. His peach of the ball sees a race between Steele and Ogbene of which there was only going to be one winner. Chieo steers the ball home and it is 2-0.
2-0 in just over 2 minutes. The best Premier League start by any side since Leicester years ago.
We didn’t stop there. Brighton didn’t know what had hit them.
The third goal was just poetry. Barkley, who pulls so many strings he deserves his own orchestra, exchanged passes with Elijah. Ross moved further forward with the ball then slipped Elijah back in at pace and his finish was pure and true.
Half time chat was just one word. Unbelievable.
Second half more of the same. The fourth goal was your more classic Luton set piece as witnessed this season. The perfection of a corner swung in by Alfie. And who was there to flick it on but our old Brighton and ex Hornet friend Pedro in his only meaningful contribution of the night. His touch allowed Elijah to power a header home.
4-0 and still over 20 minutes to play.
Jordan Clark was robbed by a guess of an offside flag and Chieo denied a clear pen. Steele made some good saves. In truth 7 or 8 would not have flattered the Town.
An exceptional performance.
3,000 loved up Hatters now head to Geordieland to roar on the Town in Newcastle.
