1760 travelled to see the Hatters but there were quite a few of those singing some new chants by the end.
Edwards Edwards sort it out being the most popular.
A curious team selection with Walters moved to left back and Doughty playing right wing.
It didn’t work. Walters in particular had a torrid afternoon.
Barely having to deal with a Luton threat all game, Sheffield coasted to an easy win without really getting out of second gear.
The Sheffield recruitment looks streets ahead of Luton. Be interesting to see the wages sheet but take their use of the loan market in defence…. Soutar and Gilchrist. Didn’t put a foot wrong all day.
The Palace goal scorer is on good money and a hefty loan fee… but is that investment more than what we’ve spent?
Can’t get too greedy… the long term Luton fans know where the club were on the pitch just over 4 years ago.. Struggling to survive in the championship.
Have we gone back to that level? If so we’ve done it with a wage bill far higher. But with a new stadium secure.
That’s the bigger picture. But the board can no longer get away with claiming this was a squad built for an immediate return. Where they have invested have they done so on the right players? And the manager simply hasn’t adjusted tactics or shape to a team without the star quality that Barkley, Kabore, Ogbene and Lokonga gave it last year.
New players have arrived too late. There is no fluency or understanding, and there needs to be a retrospective on the pre-season preparations. The injured players are coming back but having to protect them is compromising use of substitutes.
As he walked round the away fans at the end Edwards looked like a beaten man. So unlike the spirit he has shown in the last 2 years. He is more likely to walk than face the axe given his exemplary conduct and what he has given the club. But whether he stays or goes you hope his smile returns.
Watford next.
