Sheffield United 2 Luton Town 3 – Blades Blunted By Inspired Hatters

There is something in the Yorkshire air that Luton Town love as another trip up to God’s own country saw the mighty Hatters pick up an absolutely vital 3 points having at one stage looking like coming back with nothing. But remember Crooks, this Luton Town side can never be written off.

A dream start as Alfie who had the freedom of the first half danced into the box, beat a couple of men, and fired straight through the keeper’s legs. There was a delay of about three seconds in the away fans as we didn’t realise the ball had gone into the net until Alfie started wheeling away.

Chris Wilder used to be quite an imaginative manager. He coached a Northampton side a few years ago to score one of the best free kick goals I’ve ever seen at the Kenny. Tactically Wilder changed it at half time and Alfie didn’t seem to get as much space second half. The Blades big man McBurnie was a handful all afternoon, and he got the equaliser. A few minutes later the 30,000 home fans finally appeared to wake up as their captain poked in a second.

But then Wilder took Hamer – who always has a decent game against us – off and Sir Robbie produced the masterstroke of introducing Carlton Morris.

The Town equaliser was a brilliant bit of play from Morris who rescued a ball from the edge of the area, and put a peach of a cross in. It flicked off a defender and nestled into the net under great pressure from Gabe Osho.

Minutes later another more driven cross from Carlton met the outstretched boot of a defender and looped enthusiastically into the corner to give Town the 3 points.

Sheffield still looked a threat from the high ball, long throw – but just like Newcastle, Rob had brought on Mads Andersen to repel anything the hoofers could throw at us.

Cue bedlam at the end of the game in the away end as two Christmas games had yielded 6 maximum points.

Bring on Chelsea on Saturday
